Spotted Cow Ride 2022

AFTON ==> BROADHEAD ==> NEW GLARUS

Once again, we are embarking on our annual trek in search of Spotted Cows!  Join us for a scenic 47 mile ride from Afton to Brodhead to New Glarus.  This is generally a one-way ride, so plan to (a) RIDE the VelociBus (details below) (b) leave a vehicle parked in New Glarus, (c) have a friend / spouse meet you in New Glarus, or (d) to turn around and ride back!

NEW this year, we are teaming up with Velocity Multi-Sport & Cycling and will be riding alongside owner Scott Wente to celebrate his birthday. Velocity is donating their "VelociBus", fuel and a driver for this event which holds 12 people + bikes. They are selling seats on the bus for $50, which includes transportation of a luggage bag TO New Glarus, and a ride home with your bike to Afton / Janesville. The bus WILL be departing New Glarus by 5:30 pm to return home. The money generated will be donated to the National MS Society for Curt's Bike MS fundraising. Seating is limited, so contact Scott (608-361-8075) / FB messenger, or Curt (608-352-0227) / FB messenger to secure your spot!

When: Saturday, July 9, 10:00 a.m.
Start: Former Bass Creek Cafe (now closed), 5409 S County Road D, Afton, WI
Pit Stop at approximately mile 20 of the route, Veterans Memorial Park in Brodhead
Finish at the trailhead of the Sugar River Trail in New Glarus.
Anticipated arrival time in New Glarus is approximately 2:00 p.m.

There is ample parking near the trailhead in New Glarus. The Village pool is nearby with shower facilities to get cleaned up after the ride (small fee $3 to use showers).

We will plan to meet at Puempel's Olde Tavern, on 6th Street in New Glarus to enjoy a Spotted Cow or two after the ride. New this year, Dirty Dog Taphaus is also nearby and may be an option for post ride hydration. For those that stick around, we may also find dinner in New Glarus later that afternoon.

***IMPORTANT*** There will be NO support offered during this ride! Plan to stick with a buddy and be prepared with maps, cue sheets, spare tubes and a cell phone to phone a friend if you need assistance. YOU are responsible to get yourself from the start to the finish line. As there will be riders with many different ability levels, you may get dropped from the pack you are riding with.  Plan accordingly!!

2021 Bike MS (Team CCC): FAQ

To answer many questions, here are ride details published by National MS Society:

https://mssociety.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1654&eventID=571#active-accordion-tab-1

Packet Pickup

The last opportunity is Friday at WCTC from 4-7. There is NO packet pickup available on the morning of the ride. I will be spending the night at the Wildwood Lodge and can swing by WCTC if needed. IF you have raised the minimum $300, I'd be happy to grab your packet on Friday. Send me a text / email if this would help you out.

What time do we start?

Team CCC has been assigned Venue Access Window #1 of 7:00-7:30 a.m. I anticipate beginning immediately at 7:00 a.m., however it won't be a large group start with a countdown like what has been done in the past. When you're ready, just start riding. Venue Access Window #2 begins at 7:30, through the last Window #6 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

You should plan to arrive about 30 minutes before your start time, so for Team CCC about 6:30. This will allow time for pumping tires, filling water bottles, and hopefully a team photo.

What are the routes?

All routes start and end at WCTC in Waukesha.
50 mile route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36854713
75 mile route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36854667
There is no 100 mile route for 2021.

Will there be lunch on the route?

A sit down meal will not be served on the route like has been done in the past. Rest stops along the route will be plentiful, and food and beverages served at the finish line.

Is Team CCC meeting up as a group to cross the finish line?

No. Due to many X factors we will not be meeting up to cross the finish line as a team like we've done in years past. There will be food and beverages available after crossing the finish line, so let's plan for some team camaraderie after our work is done in the saddle. PLEASE find me (Curt) after you cross the finish line as I would love to see all of your smiling faces!

Team CCC 2019 Wrapup / 2020 Kickoff party

You're invited!

What: Team CCC 2019 Wrapup / 2020 Kickoff party

When: Saturday November 9, 5-10 pm

Where: O'Riley & Conways Irish Pub, Janesville

With cold weather upon us, the 2019 riding season has come to a close. We had another fantastic year and raised $104,411.67 ($788,815.55 cumulative) to fight multiple sclerosis. When I stop and think about this, approaching $1M in lifetime fundraising, polka dots are making a HUGE impact on this disease. Nobody can do this alone, so thank you SO MUCH for pedaling your bike and funraising alongside me to help find a cure.

ALSO, our alumni rider and favorite comedian Pete Lee is performing at the Janesville Perforing Arts center that evening (8pm show). Tickets are still available through the JPAC box office, so stop by and say hello either before or after the show! And if you register to ride for 2020, Curt will buy you a beverage :-)

I hope to see lots of polka dot riders there!

Many thanks,
Curt Sauser

OPTIONAL Friday Night Hotel

Book your room soon before its sold out!  I'm suggesting hotel reservations early this year so everyone has an opportunity to get a room.  Last year the hotel sold out several months ahead of the Bike MS weekend, and many from Team CCC had to find a room elsewhere.

On the evening of Friday, August 2 before the MS ride, you have an opportunity to have your bike transported from Madison (finish line) to the starting line on Saturday morning.

A good group of us from Team CCC (usually about 50% of the team) load our bikes, and ride over to stay at a hotel in Pewaukee the night before the ride. Again staying at the hotel is optional, and an additional cost. You can always find your own transportation to the start line on the day of the ride.

If you are interested in staying with the team, you should find a roommate and make a reservation ASAP before it fills up at:

Wildwood Lodge
N14 W24121 Tower Place
Pewaukee, WI 53072
Phone: 262-506-2000
*mention the room block MS Bike Tour for a discounted rate

Buses usually arrive at the hotel on Friday evening by around 7:30-8:00 pm. There are many options for dinner near the hotel.

The morning of the bike ride, Saturday, August 3, buses will take you and you luggage directly from the hotel to the starting line of the MS ride a few miles away at WCTC. Your bike will already be there. Plan to wake up EARLY and catch the first bus (usually 5:45 am) so you're not running behind!

Connect with Team CCC on Garmin and Strava

If you're a Garmin user, here's an opportunity to connect with other Team CCC riders and see what kind of miles they are really putting in.  You can search for the group to request membership, or send Curt and email if you would like to join.

If you're a Strava user, click this link for an invite to the Team CCC Group.

Personally, I think that Garmin does a great job with GPS and tracking your activities.  However they make it really tough to connect and find your friends.  Strava does a much better job of connecting you with your friends, and interacting with their workouts.  Or if you're like me, my Garmin watch connects my workouts directly to Strava and I enjoy the benefits of both.  I hope to "connect" with you soon!
